| The first steps of the PDP include a significant
amount of public participation. At the outset of the study contact was made
with representative stakeholders of local government agencies, businesses and
neighborhood groups to identify concerns within the corridor. Formal meetings
with each of the stakeholder groups were held on March 2, 2005 at the Boardman
Township Administration Center.
The stakeholder meetings covered the study history and the PDP process, as well
as identifying issues and concerns of the people who live, work and travel the
US 224 corridor.
An Open House Public Information Meeting was held for the general public on
March 22, 2005 at Glenwood Middle School. This meeting presented background
information on the study (including crash and traffic capacity information),
the PDP process, issues and concerns identified by the stakeholder groups,
goals and objectives of the study and aerial mapping of the study area.
Representatives of ODOT, Eastgate and URS were on hand to answer questions.
Handouts were available, and written comments were solicited.
A joint meeting of the stakeholder groups was held on July 19, 2005, at the
Boardman Township Administration Center. Members of the Government, Business
and Citizens groups came together to view traffic data, crash data, environmental
issues and preliminary analysis. Stakeholders were given an update on tasks
completed to that point. The various documents being prepared were discussed,
and members had a chance to ask questions.
The second Open House Public Meeting was held on August 16, 2005, at
Center Middle School in Boardman Township. That meeting gave members of
the public a chance to view the traffic, crash and environmental data on
large aerial maps. Results of existing and future traffic conditions analysis
were also on display. A presentation was made detailing the Project Development
Process, and where the US 224 Corridor Study was in that process.
The final public involvement of the planning process was held on
Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at the Boardman Township Administrative Center.
The purpose of the meeting was to present the conceptual alternatives that
had been developed during the first steps of the PDP. The alternatives
include backage roads behind businesses on US 224, modifications to both
the SR 11 and I-680 interchanges, additional turn lanes at intersections,
improved signage and outreach programs dealing with education and enforcement.
A slide show was presented outlining how the alternatives were developed and
analyzed, and large maps of the various alternatives were on display.
Approximately 100 people attended the meeting and were able to freely view the
boards. All of the display boards from the meeting, as well as the slide show,
can be accessed below. If you have trouble opening or downloading the files,
a set of the large boards can be viewed at the Boardman Township Administrative Center
on Market Street.
The handout from the May 17, 2006, Public Meeting is also included below.
The handout provides text descriptions of the various alternatives and details
of some of the information presented in the slide show. A self-addressed comment
sheet is available at the end of the handout for you to provide your thoughts on
the conceptual alternatives.
